Art Programming

Artshare exists to provide three main things: accessibility to the arts through exposure; creative artistic expression; and empowered interaction that brokers inclusivity, belonging & opportunity

We provides daily arts programming across 12 Day Habilitation Programs in Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island. Teaching artists in residence, external art partners and volunteers offer both virtual and on-site classes for over 200 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the year.

Our Artist Educators

Artists in Session

A walk through Artshare day programs may look like this: behind one door are fans of theater and singing, taking turns reinterpreting their favorite scenes from musicals. A conference room set to hiphop music boom-baps as visual arts teachers guide their students to draw still life, from fruits to sneakers. Pensive weavers crouch over in meditative silence, the clacking of looms tell their stories in textile. Others string beads and bend wire to create stunning adornments. Meanwhile, members of the photography club talk about angles, lighting, and packed lunches as they prepare for their upcoming photo-walk later in the week.

‍‍We pride ourselves in working with professional artists who break molds in their own careers outside of Artshare. Our instructors, while experts at their disciplines, consider their students experts at their own self-expression. From improv classes to creating installations, interdisciplinary collaboration is a given.

In all things, especially in art, it takes a village. Our artists receive support not only from their art instructors, but also from their direct service specialists who learn and practice art with them. Artshare connects day programs to the artists in their neighborhood to strengthen localized networks of support.
